Bikes and Bike Repair
Below are the best places to get bikes and accessories suitable for life on the playa, as well as a few repair and parts shops. Whether it be a mountain bike, cruiser with fat tires, tricycle or kids bike, you should be able to find what you need, even if just through their website and/or by calling them. Just keep in mind that bikes are in high demand, so best to get one as soon as you can.
Black Rock Bicycles
7875 North Virginia Street Unit B – 775-972-3336 – (Downtown-Midtown)
Open generally 10am-6pm, but they will have extended August and September hours, so call ahead. Owned and operated by burners, you can either rent or buy a new or used Black Rock Bicycle, as well as purchase locks, el-wire kits and spoke lights, bells, horns, spare tubes, bike racks, trailers, baskets, décor, and spare tubes/parts. A portion of sales is donated to the local Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission and Lions Club. Finally, if you buy a bike from them, you can have it cleaned up and stored with them year-round – call for further info.
Reno Bike Project
216 East Grove Street – 775-323-4488 – (Reno Airport)
Open Mon-Wed and Sat 10am-5pm, Thur-Fri 10am-6pm. Reno Bike Project is a 501c3 non-profit community bicycle shop and resource, advocating for a sustainable cycling community through education, collaboration, and accessibility for everyone in the Truckee Meadows, and deeply involved in the burner community for a long time. Bikes, as well as baskets and lights, only for sale (no rentals). NOTE: If you want to purchase a bike, PLEASE FIRST EMAIL [email protected] with how many you’re looking for and your expected pickup date. Get them while they last.
Kiwanis Bike Program
5305 Mill Street – 775-337-1717 -(East McCarran)
Open Wed and Thur 1pm-7pm and Fri and Sat 1pm-5pm, or by appointment. Special hours 9am-9pm Wed Aug 21 thru Wed Aug 28 (9am – 9pm). The non-profit Kiwanis Bike Program is devoted year-round to providing bikes for youth in need. They’ve sold and taken used bikes, ideal for the playa, from Burners for very many years! First come, first serve while supplies last. Bikes are $80, and they may also have bike accessories. They will also take back bikes at their shop following Burning Man. Don’t leave bikes on the playa!
