Grocery stores are spread out all over the Truckee Meadows. Here is a listing of just about everything along the regular migrations to Black Rock City.  Some are particularly fitting for burners, carrying just about everything needed for life on the playa in BRC.


Black Rock Rentals

Open 8/28-9/11. Located in Empire across from Black Rock Mini Storage. Fill your water containers and RV, as well as dispose of your trash and RV greywatrer.

Blue Dot Water
1296 East Plumb Lane – 775-870-9727 – (Reno Airport)
Open daily Mon-Fri 9am-2pm, with special hours 9am-5pm Thursday through Saturday before the Burning Man event officially begins. Outside vending machines open 24/7. Located near the Reno Airport in the Costco shopping center, you can get alkaline or purified water. Purchase new bottles or drums online for curbside pickup during business hours.  Also, fill up your RV or drums in back of store.  Or you can fill your bottles up to 5-gallons 24/7 using their vending machines.  Additional vending machines also located at 1615 E Second St.

The Corner Store
600 Main Street – 530-279-2466 – (Cedarville)
Open daily 8am-6pm. Call ahead for possible after-hours appointment and further info. Located at the heart of town, at the corner of 299 and County Road 1 (Main Street). Water, ice, liquor, canned beer, el-wire kits and glow toys, goggles, sandwiches, soda, energy drinks, snacks, beer, maps, directions, and local information provided with very hospitable service.

Costco Wholesale (two locations)

Open Mon-Fri 11am-8:30pm, Sat 9:30am-6pm, Sun 10am-6pm. A big warehouse store for Costco members with bulk water and a wide variety of food, booze, and merchandize at great prices.

Crystal Ice

Open Mon-Sat 7am-4pm, Sun 8am-3pm. Mass quantities of ice and dry ice anyone?

Empire Country Market
Mile Marker 69 State Route 447 – 775-557-2145 – (Gerlach)
Open 9am-6pm. Call ahead for possible extended hours. Owned and operated by long-time Burners, they are very supportive of the community. Treat them well. Cash only, but ATM is available. Call or email [email protected] ASAP to pre-order ice. One of the last places to get gas. You can get some sandwiches and other food, water, ice, liquor, sodas, coffee, smokes, toiletries, camping knick-knacs such as hats, clothing, glasses, goggles, dust masks, batteries, and tarps, as well as some auto supplies. You can also find Burning Man calendars and posters, as well as books and films on Burning Man.

FoodMaxx

Open 6am to midgnight. Large selection of bulk food, booze, water, and other groceries.

Gerlach Shriners Water Sales
330 Short Drive – 775-557-2601 – map -(Gerlach)
Open 9am-5pm 8/16-18 and 8/26-8/30, or by appt at night.  Open 24 hours 8/19-26. The Gerlach GID (the local governing body of Gerlach) will be selling potable water to fill up RVs and water tanks of any size, with the funds going to support the Shriners outreach efforts. Look out for directional signs just as you enter town on Main Street. Rates are 60 cents per gallon.  Cash and credit card. 

Great Basin Community Food Co-Op
240 Court Street – 775-324-6133 – (Downtown-Midtown)
Open daily 8am-9pm. Call or email for possible after-hours appointment. Located in Downtown Reno, the wonderful people of Reno’s only community-owned food co-op are committed to providing and supporting local, organic, and sustainable products. They have a wide variety of produce from local farms and bulk foods, notably including dried foods, nuts, seeds, and cereals, as well as energy bars, pre-packed meals, juices, coconut water, craft beers and organic wines, lotions, toiletries, and other bodily care items good for the playa life. You can also fill up your water containers up to 5 gallons with alkalized water, and they have a coffee shop upstairs.  Burners can pre-order! However, please note that due to space limitations this year,large-volume (for 15+ people) orders must be received by no later than July 31 and you will need to pick up the order the day the store receives it (Monday, Wednesday, or Friday) – the store will coordinate further with you after you place your order. I-80 Smokeshop, Market & Campground
1000 Smoke Shop Circle, Wadsworth – 775-575-2181 – (Wadsworth)
Open 24 hours around Burning Man, but usually 6am-9pm daily. If you are traveling from the west to Burning Man, I-80 Smoke Shop & Market is right off I-80 as you enter Wadsworth. A gas station and convenience store flush with hospitality and having among many things, lots of water, smokes, dry ice and ice, tarps, goggles, hats, booze, and canned beer on-hand – one of the last for about 100 miles to stock up. Page’s Market

Open8am to 7pm, with extended hours during Burning Man. Call ahead for special orders. Full line of groceries and supplies unique for the playa, including fresh produce, liquor, canned beer, water containers and bulk water, ice, camping supplies, headlamps, sunglasses, goggles, hats, el-wire kits, bike and auto supplies, all provided with very hospitable service. Also a BBQ during Burning Man’s exodus, 10am-midnight Sunday and Monday 9/4-5.

The Nixon Store

Rabbit Traxx Store
580 Patterson Street – 530-279-2022 – (Cedarville)
Fuel always available 24 hours. Owned and operated by the Cedarville Rancheria Paiute Tribe, Rabbit Traxx provides gas and carries last minute items.

Raleys Supermarket (four locations)

Open daily 6am-midnight. Raley’s is one of the most reputable grocery chains in the region, carrying some of the best quality products. Notably, the store on Keystone will be expanding and increasing inventories for burners, both in basics and in many specialty items, like bulk water, coconut water, blinky light jewelry, propane, tiki torches, natural foods, organic produce, and spirits, wine, and canned beer at some of the best prices in town.

Raleys One Supermarket

Open daily 6am-midnight. Raley’s is one of the most reputable grocery chains in the region, and this location focuses on quality, organic, and natural foods, with a great alcoholic-beverage selection.

Red Rock Spring Water
1145 Icehouse Avenue – 775-331-5908 – (Pyramid Highway)
Open Mon-Fri 8am-5pm, extended or weekend hours by appointment. Red Rock provides naturally-filtered spring water drawn from the Red Rock Spring 30 miles north of Reno. Water is $7.50 per 5 gallons. 3 and 5-gallon containers can also be purchased and returned for a $8 deposit/refund. BPA-free bottles as well as spigots and pumps are also available, and you can fill up your RV with tap water.

Safeway Supermarket (two locations)

Open 24/7. Safeway is stocking many pallets of water along with ice and dry ice in the front lobby. Safeway offers a real live sushi chef during the day and Starbucks is inside for your caffiene addiction. There is a very large selection of natural and organic foods as well. Pharmacy. Free wifi.

Open 6am-10pm. A favorite among many burners and large camps, carrying lots of bulk items, produce and other groceries, as well as booze and beer – all at discounted prices with exceptional customer service.

The Water Store

Vending machines operating 24 hours. Fresca Waterhouse provides water purified by reverse-osmosis at 40 cents per gallon.

Trader Joe’s

Trader Joe’s has always been a hot spot among local and world burners, carrying a large variety of unique foods, delicacies, energy bars, dried fruits and nuts, juices, coconut water, toiletries, body products, and booze good for playa life.

Way Out Here Water
Dry Gulch Road – 775-224-3884 – map
35 miles north of Gerlach, 49 miles south of Cedarville, on Hwy 447 between mile markers 107 and 108. Turn south on Dry Gulch Road. Follow the dirt road for 0.6 miles, go through the dry gulch, continue 0.1 miles to the green gate on the left. Filtered artesian water to fill up your tanks, barrels and drums.

Whole Foods Market
6139 South Virginia Street – 775-852-8023 – (South McCarran)
Open 8am-10pm. Whole Foods has the biggest selection of healthy and quality foods in the region, particularly for vegans and vegetarians.Most notably, they will have lots of bulk water in 2.5 and 5 gallon sizes, organic and top-notch produce, ready-to-go meals and powders, bulk foods, juices, raw foods, energy bars, imported and domestic delicacies, trail mixes, coconut water, energy drinks, high-quality skin care and toiletries, and a big selection of imported and domestic wines, beers, and spirits. You can order online via Amazon for pickups. They also have several restaurants and buffet selections, as well as a beer bar.
